I will be posting a series of interviews with people I am calling “Lifestyle Design Heroes”, men and women who are successfully leading alternative lifestyles they have designed for themselves. They have taken clear steps towards creating for themselves the life that dreams are made of. This series will skip the gush and bring home the meat. These heroes are going to reveal their secrets. They will tell you how they did it (and how you can too).
The inspiration comes from escape artist and The 4-Hour Workweek author Tim Ferriss. He wrote the book in April 2007 chronicling how he did it — escape the 9-to-5 rat race, live anywhere and join what he calls the New Rich (more on them later) and followed it up with a popular blog that centres around ‘Lifestyle Design’ (no, we aren’t talking luxury cars and expensive restaurants but a lifestyle that is far from ordinary).
To start with, I am reproducing a couple of interviews I had done with two such members who had already joined the New Rich (back in 2010 when the 4HWW bug bit me and a friend). For the uninitiated, Tim describes the New Rich (NR) as those who abandon the deferred-life plan and create luxury lifestyles in the present using the currency of the New Rich: time and mobility. Ready for a paradigm shift?
